Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Reporting through the Division of Student Affairs, the Dean of Students Office at Iowa State University is seeking two Cued Language Transliterators (CLT) to provide services to deaf and/or hard of hearing ISU students and visitors requiring this accommodation.

These positions will provide transliteration in a variety of settings including class lectures, discussion groups and labs, as well as services outside of the classroom such as student appointments, tutoring, ISU campus visits, ISUorientation, graduation events, student organization meetings, public lectures, etc.

Additional responsibilities include meeting with students to review communication needs, proctoring accommodated exams, assisting with text conversion processes, and performing other duties as needed in the Student Disability Resources office.

The successful candidates will demonstrate proficient cued transliteration skills with the ability to meet the material comprehension needs of deaf/hard of hearing clients in a collegiate setting. The successful candidates will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive client relationships and will adhere to the professional standards and ethics of the National Certifying Body for Cued Language Transliterators (TEC Unit).

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 7 years.

Professional experience as a certified Cued Language Transliterator.

Experience in a High School or Post-secondary educational environment as a Cued Language Transliterator.

Experience working with issues related to the provision of reasonable accommodations in the post-secondary environment.
