Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Facilities Planning and Management at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for an Interior Designer II.

Responsibilities of this position will include; provide professional interior design and project management services for small projects, up to $150,000 to the University community for in-house design projects and consultant-designed projects. This person is expected to work on 20-30 projects simultaneously. Projects assigned are single office and office suite redesigns, classroom renovations, laboratory remodels and small to medium-size capital projects. Under moderate supervision, acts as primary contact for the small projects assigned. The Interior Designer II advises and consults, prepares rough construction cost estimates, prepares drawings and specifications to communicate and provide instruction. Position also provides general project support during all phases of design and construction.

In additional to the responsibilities listed above, this position will be responsible for small to medium sized projects up to $250,000. If filled at this level, the position would be expected to handle tasks with more autonomy and a greater degree of ingenuity.

The successful candidate will possess ability to communicate and work with university clients, professional consultants and contractors. Must have tact and good negotiation skills to maintain positive client and workplace relations. Must have strong organizational and analytical skills, including the ability to organize and coordinate work within projects.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 1 year of related experience.

Commercial interior design experience including systems furniture specification.

Experience using computer aided drafting software such as AutoCAD or Revit

Experience communicating design detail to peers, clients, and trade crafts person.

Experience using 2020 CAP furniture specification software.

Location (if other than Ames)
Additional Information

Guaranteed Consideration Date has been extended.

Work is required to be performed outside normal hours: occasionally (i.e., year end equipment purchases and to meet project move-in dates).

This position will be is required to travel on occasion.
