Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Iowa State University is accepting applications for the position of Assistant or Associate Professor in Immunology within the department of Veterinary Microbiology and Preventive Medicine (VMPM). VMPM provides teaching and research in the areas of bacterial and viral pathogenesis, host-microbe interactions, vaccine development and mechanisms of host immunity, as well as food-safety and public health.

Responsibilities of this 9-month, tenure-track position include establishing and maintaining an active, extramurally funded, independent immunology research program focused on viral pathogens in an area complementary to established programs in the department (75%); contribute to the teaching needs of the VMPM department (15% effort); and perform university service (10 % effort). Areas of research consistent with the mission of VMPM include, but are not limited to: mechanisms of immunity against viral infectious diseases of animals and humans, molecular pathogenesis of viral pathogens, vaccinology, genomics, proteomics, and host/pathogen interactions. Teaching responsibilities may lie within the undergraduate, graduate, and/or professional veterinary curricula.

The successful candidate will have a unique focus that is complementary to the department’s research mission as stated above. Required Education and Experience

- A Ph.D., or an equivalent degree, in infectious diseases, immunology, comparative pathobiology, or a related discipline
- A research focus in the area of the host response to viral pathogens (influenza virus, respiratory syncytial virus)

In addition, at the level of Associate Professor the following is also required:
- A record of sustained extramural grant support and publication in peer-reviewed journals

Preferred Education and Experience

- Postdoctoral training experience
- Solid publication record in peer-reviewed journals
- Evidence of successful grantsmanship
- DVM degree
- Teaching in the areas of immunology and/or viral pathogenesis
