Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Human Sciences seeks applicants for the position of Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education. The primary responsibilities of this position are:
• Provide leadership in development and administration of research programs in the CHS
• Facilitate procurement of external funding and administer college-funded programs
• Provide leadership in collaboration with the Iowa State Agricultural and Home Economics Experiment Station
• Oversee graduate programs in the CHS
• Monitor and enhance graduate enrollments in the CHS
• Coordinate faculty development and advancement activities in the CHS and serve as liaison to the Senior Vice President and Provost (SVPP) Office
• Provide leadership for the CHS online and distance learning (ODL) unit and information technology (IT) services

The Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Education serves at the pleasure of the Dean.

Required Education and Experience

• Tenured Full Professor in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University
• Exemplary record of scholarly research, teaching, and service commensurate with rank
• Demonstrated success in graduate student mentoring, teaching and research

Preferred Education and Experience

• Demonstrated commitment to administration and enhancement of research in the CHS and across ISU
• Demonstrated knowledge of the current competitive research environment with a vision for future directions
• Demonstrated commitment to the administration, coordination, development, and promotion of graduate programs with a vision for the future
• Demonstrated ability to represent the CHS in a positive manner to external constituencies such as other academic units on campus, external funders, and the general public
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students
• Demonstrated Commitment to affirmative action/equal opportunity programs in all aspects of the CHS’s activities

Position is open to tenured Full Professors in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University.

Associate Dean position is a 50% time appointment, B Base 9 months with the opportunity for summer employment.

Three year appointment with the possibility of renewal.
