Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Psychology at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty member at the rank of assistant professor in our APA-accredited Counseling Psychology program.

Responsibilities for this position include conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate classes, advising doctoral students, and providing service to the department and university. Primary consideration will be given to those applicants who have a strong record in research, practice, and teaching and strong potential to secure external funding. Research area is open, although preference will be given to those with research expertise in Health or Multiculturalism broadly defined.

Required Education and Experience

- PhD in Counseling Psychology or a closely related field.
- Licensed or license-eligible in the state of Iowa.

Preferred Education and Experience

- Existing record of excellence in research and scholarship.
- Existing record of, or strong potential for, excellence in teaching.
- Demonstrated interest and knowledge in multicultural issues, research, and/or training.
- Demonstrated interest and knowledge in Health Psychology research.
- Record of external funding or strong promise of ability to secure external funding.
- Research interests that are clearly within the broad Counseling Psychology domain.

The Counseling Psychology program at Iowa State is an APA-accredited program that has been consistently ranked in the top five counseling programs in the country for research productivity over the last 15 years. With stellar doctoral students, extensive research support and infrastructure, and a research-friendly teaching load, successful candidates will find ISU an ideal place to flourish as a scientist-practitioner.

The Counseling program is housed in the department of Psychology, a friendly and collegial department, which also has doctoral programs in Cognitive and Social Psychology with plans to add a Health Psychology program in the future.
