Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Psychology at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in our Cognitive Psychology program.

Responsibilities for this position include conducting research, teaching undergraduate and graduate classes, advising doctoral students, and providing services to the department and university. Area of research is open, although preference will be given to applicants with expertise in cognitive neuroscience.

Required Education and Experience

- PhD in Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience, or a closely related field.

- Existing record of excellence in research and scholarship.
- Existing record of or strong potential for excellence in teaching.
- Record of external funding or strong promise of ability to secure external funding.
- Demonstrated expertise in cognitive neuroscience.

Department/Program & College Description

The Cognitive Psychology doctoral program at Iowa State maintains strengths in research on attention, perception, memory, and its application to real world issues. Faculty also contribute to cross-area initiatives within the department (e.g., Quantitative, Health, and Psychology & Law). Applicants will have access to a 68-channel passive EEG system and eye-tracking equipment housed in the Psychology department. Cognitive faculty regularly contribute to one of several interdisciplinary graduate programs at Iowa State, including Neuroscience, Gerontology, and Human-Computer Interaction. Access to special patient populations (e.g., Parkinsons, Alzheimers) can also be facilitated.

The Cognitive program is housed within the department of Psychology, a friendly and collegial department with a strong reputation for producing high-quality research. The department also maintains doctoral programs in Social and Counseling Psychology, with plans to add a Health Psychology program in the future.
