Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Community and Regional Planning in the College of Design at Iowa State University invites applications to fill a tenured/tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor starting August 16, 2018. We are seeking an outstanding individual who will contribute to teaching, research and extension in the area of urban planning and housing, especially pertaining to real estate development and/or rural housing issues.

The successful candidate will contribute to the Iowa State University mission through research, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and extension. The College of Design is developing a Master of Real Estate Development program that combines courses in design and business. The successful candidate will participate in graduate instruction in this program as well as the Masters in Community and Regional Planning. The position’s responsibilities include an extension appointment, which will involve outreach and conducting applied research that contributes to understanding housing issues in the Midwest.

Required Education and Experience

PhD in urban or regional planning, business, public administration, public policy, economics, finance or a related field. (ABD candidates must complete all requirements for the PhD by start date.)

For consideration to Associate Professor rank, applicants must meet, in addition to the above qualifications, the university standards for appointment to the rank and a strong national and international scholarly reputation.

Preferred Education and Experience

Teaching and research expertise in urban planning relating to sustainable community development and/or real estate development.

Demonstrated ability to advance understanding and familiarity with issues related to real estate development and/or rural housing in evolving market climates in the Midwestern region is also desirable.
