Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Department of Apparel, Events, and Hospitality Management at Iowa State University is seeking candidates for a position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active creative scholarship and/or research program related to apparel design and product development, and apply design theory and research methods in their scholarship; engage in grant writing, acquisition, and management; teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and engage in service in professional organizations and at the University. Research collaboration, within and among programs and departments, is strongly encouraged. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication skills, high standards and professional ethics, and be a team player.

Required Education and Experience

Applicants must have an earned PhD by the start date of August 16, 2018. At least one degree must be in the area of apparel design and product development. Other degrees can be from related fields supporting apparel design and related technologies.

Preferred Education and Experience

Preference will be given to applicants with teaching and apparel industry experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of apparel design and product development is also preferred, including some of the following areas: design technology (e.g., 3D body scanning, digital fabric printing, laser cutting, computer-aided embroidery and quilting), 2D and 3D CAD applications (e.g. patternmaking, textile design, graphic design), fashion illustration, apparel construction, creative and functional apparel design, patternmaking, draping and drafting, quality assurance, trend forecasting, and apparel production.

Preference will also be given to applicants who have a demonstrated commitment to social justice, equity, and inclusion.
