Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Veterinary Anesthetist in the Lloyd Veterinary Medical Center (LVMC). The LVMC is a recently renovated, state-of-the-art teaching hospital that provides specialized care and comprehensive medical and surgical services for companion animals throughout Iowa and surrounding states. Our clinicians, residents and interns, technicians, staff, and senior veterinary students work in teams to provide 24-hour, advanced care to animal patients.

The successful candidate will join a team of ACVAA Diplomates, residents, and technicians and will participate in the delivery of professional clinical service, specifically anesthetizing a variety of species of small and large animals along with providing efforts to enhance the national prominence of the Anesthesiology section at Iowa State University. We seek a candidate who is committed to exceptional patient care and a collaborative spirit to join our team. Clinical duties will include weekend, holiday, and after-hours obligations. This position would offer the opportunity to train with board certified faculty. A willingness to learn the physiology, pathophysiology and pharmacology involved in anesthetic and analgesic drugs, monitoring, co-existing disease and patient management is required.

The selected candidate will possess multi-tasking skills to manage a significant patient caseload, demonstrate attention to detail regarding case management, and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with patients, clients, referring veterinarians, faculty, and staff members, routinely and in potentially stressful situations.
