Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Iowa State University Athletics Department is accepting applications for an Assistant Football Coach to assist the Head Coach with all phases of the NCAA FBS Division I program including planning practice sessions and competitive coaching situations; development of scouting reports and pre-competition evaluations of opponents; identifying and successfully recruiting academically qualified and athletically talented student-athletes; teaching, mentoring and coaching; developing well-rounded student-athletes; ensuring academic progress and graduation; and performing necessary administrative duties. The Assistant Coach will ensure a commitment to adhering to university, Big 12 Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, and regulations. Will contribute to and enhance a competitive athletic experience. Will establish and maintain an environment conducive to the welfare and academic success of the student-athletes. Will establish and maintain effective interactions with the university community, alumni, media and the public.

The position requires solid work ethic, extensive knowledge of the sport of football, along with strong motivational, coaching, teaching and communication skills. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body. Requires the ability to travel extensively during the recruiting season.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree. Experience coaching or competing in football at a highly competitive level.

Preferred Education and Experience

Successful collegiate and/or NFL football experience.

Knowledge and expertise working with one of the following based on current need: special teams, offense or defense.

Coaching experience at the NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision Level.

Proven ability to recruit and coach highly skilled student-athletes.

This is a pool announcement for current and future vacancies for the 2018 season. We may hire from this same pool for various coaching positions as necessary. Applications may be submitted until all positions are filled.

This position is subject to compliance with the NCAA’s IAWP legislation which defines an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete (IAWP) as any person who maintains (or directs others to maintain) contact with the prospective student-athlete, the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardians, or coaches at any point during the prospective student-athlete’s participation in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and/or football and whose contact is directly or indirectly related to either the prospective student-athlete’s athletic skills and abilities or the prospective student-athlete’s recruitment by or enrollment in an NCAA institution. This definition includes, but is not limited to, parents, legal guardians, handlers, personal trainers and coaches. A violation occurs if an IAWP is employed by the institution and, at the time of employment, a student-athlete who enrolled at the institution in the previous two years (and remains enrolled at the institution) was a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an IAWP. A violation also occurs if an IAWP is employed and, within two years after such employment, a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete enrolls as a full-time student in a regular academic term at the institution.
