Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Community and Economic Development (CED) program unit of Iowa State University Extension and Outreach is seeking qualified candidates for a Systems Analyst II position.

The Systems Analyst II – Development, Systems Maintenance and Analysis will work within the Knowledge Teams of the CED program unit to evaluate, establish and manage Web server (e.g. Amazon Web Services, Virtual Machines), database (e.g. SQL, PostgreSQL, NoSQL, Hadoop) and backend technologies (e.g. Node.js, ArcGIS Server,) to meet the growing needs of the Extension and Outreach Indicators Program.

The incumbent will work as a member of the Extension and Outreach Indicator’s team where they will implement and maintain technologies to assist with server and database management, performance, security and the processes necessary to support the front-end development and delivery of data visualizations and relevant data dissemination.

The Systems Analyst II will be expected to work with Iowa State University IT colleagues across campus. The incumbent will serve as a model for others in using innovative and creative approaches to data systems design and management; identify and implement processes to meet clients’ needs; and provide leadership/supervision and subject-matter expertise at the local, state, and national level.

The successful candidate will possess exceptional server skills and will have the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple ongoing tasks concurrently to ensure immediate deadlines are met. Outstanding organizational skills and strong attention to detail will also be needed in order to be effective in this role.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 1 year of related experience.

Supplemental Required Education and Experience

Experience with setting up, managing and configuring Apache HTTP Server on Amazon Web Services or on Virtual Machines.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree.
Degree in computer science or closely related field.
Experience with managing and working with Amazon Web Services products. Experience with Database management, schema design and security.
Experience with JavaScript and associated visual/data frameworks and Node.js. Experience with Python, Java, and PHP programming.
Experience developing, maintaining, and querying databases (i.e. NoSQL, MySQL). Experience with computer networking.
Experience with setting up, managing and configuring Apache HTTP Server on Amazon Web Services or on Virtual Machines.
