Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Iowa State University is currently accepting applications for a Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student Services. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics and serves as a member of the Director of Athletics’ Senior Management team. The position also dual reports to both the Faculty Athletics Representative and the Director of Athletics on all matters of NCAA, Big 12 and institutional rules compliance. Position is directly responsible for supervising the Office of Student-Athlete Development (academic & student affairs) and the Office of Athletics Compliance. The position also assists the Director of Athletics in the overall administration of the athletics program including serving as the representative for all student-athlete wellness and discipline issues. Position serves as the department’s liaison to the Sr. Vice President for the Division of Student Affairs and the units that report directly to that office (Dean of Students, Housing, Food Service, Judicial Affairs, Admissions, Registrar, etc.). Commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of the University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA.

Requires exceptional leadership, analysis, decision making, communication skills and conflict resolution skills. Requires strong work ethic. Candidates are expected to be committed to multiculturalism and working with a diverse student body and staff.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 4 years of related experience.

Supplemental Required Education and Experience

Management level collegiate athletics or student affairs administrative experience including supervision of support staff, budget management and strong understanding of NCAA rules.

Preferred Education and Experience

Direct oversight of academic services, compliance and/or student affairs units.
Management experience at a FBS or FCS program.
Familiarity with conference rules, student judicial processes and/or student wellness programs.
Master’s degree in related area.

Additional Information

This position is subject to compliance with the NCAA’s IAWP legislation which defines an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete (IAWP) as any person who maintains (or directs others to maintain) contact with the prospective student-athlete, the prospective student-athlete’s relatives or legal guardians, or coaches at any point during the prospective student-athlete’s participation in men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and/or football and whose contact is directly or indirectly related to either the prospective student-athlete’s athletic skills and abilities or the prospective student-athlete’s recruitment by or enrollment in an NCAA institution. This definition includes, but is not limited to, parents, legal guardians, handlers, personal trainers and coaches. A violation occurs if an IAWP is employed by the institution and, at the time of employment, a student-athlete who enrolled at the institution in the previous two years (and remains enrolled at the institution) was a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an IAWP. A violation also occurs if an IAWP is employed and, within two years after such employment, a prospective student-athlete by which the individual meets the definition of an individual associated with a prospective student-athlete enrolls as a full-time student in a regular academic term at the institution.
