Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Iowa State University is seeking an Architectural Design Standards Coordinator. Under the direction of the Associate University Architect, responsibilities of this coordinator position will include; perform product research, review, develop, and continually update university’s Facilities Design Manual (FDM) technical details and standards distributed to outside consultants. Be engaged in Facilities, Planning, & Management (FP&M) efforts to integrate Revit/BIM strategies within FP&M and serve as professional technical resource to FP&M staff and the university community regarding architectural technologies, building codes, fire safety, security, BIM and accessibility for persons with disabilities. Provide project initiation and planning services for capital projects and studies and assist the University Architect in maintaining the quality of the built environment on the Iowa State University campus by reviewing and providing professional expert opinion on the quality of design of new construction and remodeling projects.

The successful candidate will possess strong written, verbal, technical, Revit/BIM and graphic communication skills to effectively communicate and work with university clients, professional consultants and contractors. They will also possess strong organizational and analytical sills including the ability to organize and coordinate work within projects. Strong aesthetic design abilities, knowledge of construction techniques / construction costs/budgets, and general engineering knowledge will also be essential for success in this position.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience AND Licensed in the State of Iowa.

Experience with graphic/illustration and design programs including AutoCad, Revit/BIM, Photoshop, Sketch-up, or similar programs.

Project management to include educational, commercial, or institutional facilities projects.
