Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Ames Laboratory is seeking candidates for the position of Facilities Mechanic II within Facilities and Engineering Services. Ames Laboratory is a Department of Energy funded national laboratory operated through a contractual agreement with Iowa State University.

Under general supervision, performs general maintenance and repair on lighting equipment, mechanical equipment and building systems. Performs delivery duties as assigned, pick up and repair all custodial and shop equipment as needed and performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment. Assist as needed in pick-up and delivery of chemicals and laboratory equipment.

The duties of this position require the ability to lift, carry and/or move 50-100 lbs. occasionally, and 25-50 lbs. frequently. Frequent bending, squatting, and stooping is also required.

The ability to attend required courses regarding personal protective equipment (PPE), wear and maintain PPE, and fully adhere to the requirements set forth in the Personal Protective Equipment Program are required by the duties of this position.

Required Qualifications

Two years of experience in general mechanical or electrical maintenance or other building Facilities construction work.

Special Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with the service, repair, maintenance, and testing of industrial pneumatic equipment.

Demonstrated knowledge of pneumatic symbols, reading system schematics, and electrical principles.

Experience with repair of plumbing fixtures, water distribution systems, and sewer systems.

Construction and mechanical background to support minor repairs in other trades.
