Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Iowa State University is seeking applicants for a Network Architecture Manager. This position will lead a team of engineers responsible for architecting, implementing, and administering the university’s data network. This role must have a track record of understanding technology and technology trends, and how it can be applied at the university. Duties include managing employees, projects, and associated budgets for providing Internet service, core route switch technologies, and data center networking. In addition to the duties noted, this role provides input into the development of short and long range strategic plans.

This position requires an in depth understanding of routing protocols, data center, firewall technologies, and the ability to design large scale networks to ensure proper availability and performance.

ITS provides core computing, network services, enterprise systems, and information security resources to the students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State. ITS partners with IT professionals from around campus to provide more specialized IT resources to ISU’s academic and business units.

The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and have the ability to troubleshoot, learning new skills, tools, and technologies. Applicants must also possess strong time management, organizational skills, and decision making skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience.

Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, MIS, or IT-related degree.

Demonstrated experience with Cisco routing and switching technologies.

Experience that demonstrates extensive knowledge of network protocols, and route, switch design.

Demonstrated experience with managing a team and large scale projects.

Previous experience in higher education environment.
