Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The Facilities Planning and Management (FP&M) Department at Iowa State University is seeking to hire a Custodial Services Manager. This position provides leadership, direction, and management for the Custodial Services work unit with over 140 employees providing service to over 80 general university buildings. Position is responsible to ensure safety, quality, transparency, and customer satisfaction for Custodial Services.

Managerial responsibilities include management of the departmental budget, operations, procurement, personnel, projects, processes, equipment, inventory, and supplies. Position analyzes operations to continuously improve custodial services; identifies cleaning practices, standards, techniques, and equipment for quality and efficiency; uses management techniques and data analysis to lead custodial teams; meets budgets; and directs operations. Position maintains a university environment that is clean and sanitary and meets the needs of the university customers. Position is responsible for providing excellent customer service to the campus community.

The successful candidate will possess a high-level business acumen, organizational skills, project management skills, be detail-oriented, and have the ability to lead and motivate a diverse team toward a common goal. Strong written, oral and interpersonal communications skills are critical to effectively interact with a diverse group of staff, customers, external business partners and vendors, and other FP&M personnel. They will be self-motivated and able to work independently along with working productively in a team setting. All staff members are expected to interact collegially and maintain the highest standards of integrity and ethics. This position is under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Facilities Services.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience; OR a combination of education and/or related experience totaling 8 years unless otherwise specified under supplemental required education and experience. Experience must be at a comparable level and directly related to the duties of this position.
