Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences (LAS) Information Technology team at Iowa State University is accepting applications for a Systems Analyst I or II. This Systems Analyst II position is part of a multi­person team serving in LAS IT assigned to a department in the college of LAS.

This position will provide primary support to an assigned LAS department and will also assist the LAS Infrastructure and Operations (IOPS) team to provide systems analysis and administrative service to the faculty, staff, and students of LAS in the areas of virtual machine management, scripting support, cloud hosting services, containerization, and server systems administration. This position will also assist the Research Computing (RIT) support team with research computing support for the faculty and staff of multiple departments and programs in the college.

In addition to the above, the Systems Analyst II responsibilities will include designing and/or recommending current information technology systems to meet the needs of administrators, faculty, staff and IT supervisor and more time leading college wide projects.

The successful applicant will work collaboratively with administration, faculty and students to design, maintain, and enhance the information needs of LAS. In addition, the successful applicant will demonstrate an ability to work with students, faculty and staff to support all end users information needs in a one-on-one or group environment.

Systems Analyst II:
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 1 year of related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Experience in a collaborative team programming environment
• Understands task automation and how to deploy software and/or operating systems in a complicated environment
• Experience with Version Control and ticketing systems – Understands how to use VCS (Version Control Systems) and routinely uses these systems to host code, task lists, or communicate with external developers.
• Experience with automated software testing – Knows how to create automated tests for service integration
• Experience designing, deploying and maintaining database systems – Base understanding of RDBMS systems and associated services.
• Experience writing system and usage documentation – Can demonstrate good documentation skills.
• Experience writing shell scripts in Linux/UNIX and can read/modify scripts written by another user.
• Experience reading code in C, C++, UNIX shell, HTML, PHP, Perl or Python and has a general idea of what tasks are being performed given some code or script.
• Experience with computer networks and security
• Experience with at least one server virtualization technology (such as vmware, hyper-v, kvm) and how to manage systems using it. Can provide details on its function, configuration, and use.
• Experience with cloud computing architecture and how systems interact in a hyperconverged environment.
• Experience routinely writing shell scripts in Linux/UNIX and experience with other scripting languages such as Perl, JavaScript, ASP, PHP, and/or Python and uses these scripts to augment other system tasks.
• Experience writing, augmenting or improving source code programming in C, C++, UNIX shell, HTML, PHP, Perl or Python.
• Experience with computer networks and security and critical debugging utilities.
• Experience with more than one server virtualization technology and can deploy, manage, and maintain systems utilizing those technologies
