Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Design (COD) at Iowa State University is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor II. Primary responsibilities include; directing the Global Design Connection (GDC) learning community, providing support for International Students in the college in a variety of areas including, academic and social-emotional; assist with programming efforts with the College of Design’s Multicultural Liason Officer (MLO); advising a group of first-year undergraduate students enrolled in the College of Design’s core design program; participating in prospective student visits. In addition, the Advisor will become familiar with international opportunities offered by the College of Design and provide general study abroad advising and outreach to students in coordination with the Director of International Programs. This position will require consistent and frequent collaboration with the International Students and Scholars office (ISSO) in all aspects of working with international students.

The successful candidate will be able to effectively communicate verbally, visually, and in writing; have excellent computer skills; and strong interpersonal and intercultural skills. The candidate will also possess knowledge of student development, the ability to solve problems and resolve conflicts, and the ability to work well with a diverse group of individuals. Moreover, the candidate will work to inspire and nurture a climate of inclusiveness, collegiality, shared responsibility, and shared accomplishment.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience.
