Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

Facilities Planning and Management at Iowa State University is seeking an Electrician-High Voltage. This position will be responsible for maintaining, installing, and operating high voltage underground and overhead electrical distribution systems (up to 15,000 volts). Duties include the installation of high voltage cable, switchgear, transformers, raceways, metering and associated equipment. Determines jobsite work sequences and safety procedures required; plans and completes job layout details; procures materials; coordinates outages; completes work; and places systems back into service from information based upon drawings, general instructions, or standard procedures using own knowledge. Reads and interprets schematics, drawings, and instruction books.

Required Qualifications

Four years of experience in the trade, including apprenticeship, of which two years must be in the area of high voltage.

Special Qualifications

Must have valid state driver’s license and ability to be authorized to drive university vehicles.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working with underground high voltage systems.
Additional years’ experience working with underground high voltage systems with voltages up to 15,000 volts.
State of Iowa Electrical license or other applicable electrical license.
