Summary of Duties and Responsibilities

The College of Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University, located in Ames, Iowa, invites applications for a full-time, clinical-track faculty position in Emergency Equine Surgery housed within the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences. This position will be responsible for equine ICU duties, receiving and assisting with elective cases as well as emergencies admitted both during and after regular business hours and will provide a minimum 50% emergency coverage including in-house after hours and weekend obligations. In addition, the successful applicant will be required to be available for all clinical work during normal daytime hours. The position will also include supporting house officers with emergency and elective cases and student teaching. The selected candidate will also perform routine and more complex surgical procedures after hours and assess the need for consultation when necessary.

Further duties involve instructing students in equine medicine and surgery, teaching surgical skills, didactic teaching, laboratory teaching and introducing students to routine procedures involving equine, canine and feline patients. The successful candidate will also have a collegial, collaborative attitude and willingness to participate in all levels of technician, student, and house officer education.

Required Education and Experience

- DVM or equivalent degree
- Demonstrated expertise in emergency and critical care cases
- Familiarity with teaching methods relating to practical surgery skills

Preferred Education and Experience

- An advanced degree in biomedical science or closely related field
- An established record of scholarship
- Evidence of having applied for, received, or completed grants or funding

Required Licensure(s)/Certification(s)

State of Iowa Veterinary License on or before the first day of employment.

Board Certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS).
